6FSC: #005 - The Perfect Product Suite for Online Sports Coaches
Are you losing sales because you donāt have a product suite?
Most coaches donāt realize it, but not having a clear lineup of products and services is one of the biggest reasons they struggle to grow.
Hereās the thing: If youāre only offering one serviceālike 1:1 coachingāyouāre leaving money on the table.
- What happens to the person who canāt afford high-ticket coaching? They walk away.
- What about the client who just needs a drill or quick win? You lose them too.
The coaches who build thriving, scalable businesses donāt just sell coaching. They offer solutions at every price point to meet their audience where they are.
Hereās how Iāve structured my own product suite to turn casual viewers into loyal clientsāand scale my business sustainably.
Start With Free Content (That Actually Delivers Results)
Most of your audience will start by engaging with your free content. This isnāt fillerāitās the foundation of your business.
In fact, my free videos for Catching Made Simple have helped catchers make their varsity teams. I get DMs all the time from athletes thanking me for the tips they learned just from watching.
Why it works:
- It builds trust. People see your content and know you can help them.
- It proves your expertise. Results speak louder than marketing.
- It creates momentum. When someone gets a win, theyāre more likely to buy from you next.
Focus on creating valuable, actionable free content that solves small problems and shows your audience whatās possible.
Examples:
- YouTube videos breaking down common mistakes.
- Social Media instructional videos
1ļøā£ Free Offers
Every great product suite starts with free offers. These build trust and give potential clients a taste of what you can do.
Your free products should:
- Solve a small problem.
- Be easy to consume.
- Build curiosity for your paid offers.
Examples:
- Checklist: āThe 5 Essentials to Improve Your [Skill].ā
- Challenge: A free 5-day challenge to help clients see small wins (and get hooked).
Pro tip: Bundle all your free resources together as the "ultimate" lead magnet.
Bonus: After your lead magnet there should be automated email sequences. More on that in another newsletter.
2ļøā£ Paid Courses
Courses allow you to serve more clients without trading your time. Price points vary depending on the depth and value of the content.
Hereās the pricing structure I recommend:
- $4.99 Drills: Small wins, like one key drill to fix a specific skill.
- $27 Mini-Course: More in-depth solutions to common problems.
- $47 āIn 60 Minutesā Course: Deliver transformation in one focused hour.
- Example: āFix Your Swing in 60 Minutes.ā
- $97 āIn 90 Minutesā Course: Deeper dive into complex skills or challenges.
- $297 ALL Courses: Bundle all the courses together.
Courses help you scale your impact and create passive income while offering solutions for clients at all levels.
Here's a screenshot of my course suite:
*Pro tip: the $4.99 course with a $27 order bump on the checkout form has performed really well for me. Look in the bottom left where it says "Add" and that's the "order bump"
3ļøā£ Paid Coaching
Coaching is your high-touch, premium offer. This is where you deliver the biggest transformationsāand command the highest prices.
This is where you should make MOST of your money.
Hereās how to structure it:
1. Core Offer (Productized Coaching Program)
Every core offer should have: a productized program, personalized video feedback, and weekly group calls. I also recommend having a 1:1 onboarding call on zoom.
- $349 (4 weeks, 3 reviews): This is the first thing I'd recommend to build.
- $649 (4 weeks, 6 reviews): More frequent feedback for faster results.
- $1,000 (12 weeks, 3 reviews a week): Same thing, just a longer 12 week program.
2. Continuity Offer (Membership and ongoing coaching)
After the core coaching offer, we need something that will help them keep going.
Going into a subscription here does a few great things:
- Offsets recurring expenses with recurring revenue
- Allows you to not "start from 0" every month
- Keeps the athlete accountable to keep working
The payment options I recommend here are:
- $49/wk - 2-3 video reviews a week + group calls
- $99/mo - one video review a week + group calls
- $49/mo - one video review a month + group calls
In 2024, my recurring revenue totaled to be just over $47k.
3. Mastery Program (High-Ticket Coaching)
Believe it or not, there are families out there that have lots of disposable income. And what better place to invest it than your kid and a coach you believe in?
That's why we want to have a higher option available. Even if nobody ever buys it.
- $1,000/month: Weekly 1-hour Zoom lessons + regular core offer
- Perfect for advanced clients who want ongoing, customized guidance.
I've had the privilege to work with two families on this and have become good friends with their families.
So for context, two clients make up ~50% of my recurring revenue since they each pay me $1k/mo.
That's a great example of the 80/20 rule at work. If you're not sure what the 80/20 rule is, go google it. It's important.
The 80/20 rule states that 80% of outputs are driven by 20% of inputs. Here are some examples so you get it:
- 80% of home runs are hit by 20% of players
- 80% of traffic is on 20% of roads
- 80% of the time you wear 20% of your shoes
- 80$ of the money you make will come from 20% of your customers
